Rare Cancer
What Are Rare Cancers?
Rare cancers are a general term for relatively uncommon cancers, defined as those with fewer than 6 new cases per 100,000 people per year.
Although each individual disease is rare, there are a great many types, and together they account for a substantial proportion of all cancer patients.
Rare cancers are associated with challenges such as:
- Difficulty in diagnosis
- A limited number of facilities with treatment experience
- Standard treatments that may not yet be established
These are important issues in rare cancer care.
Major Rare Cancers
- Pleural mesothelioma
- Bone and soft tissue sarcoma
- Adrenal tumors
- Small intestine cancer
- Neuroendocrine tumors
- Cancers of rare histological types
A wide variety of diseases such as these are included.
What Matters in Rare Cancer Care
In rare cancers, the location and extent of the lesions and the speed of progression differ from disease to disease. For this reason, the following are essential:
- Accurate imaging evaluation
- Appropriate tissue diagnosis
- Treatment selection tailored to the patient's condition
These factors are of key importance.
In addition to systemic therapy, combining local treatment may help relieve symptoms and control disease progression.
IVR Care at Our Clinic
High-Precision Imaging Diagnosis
At our clinic, we use:
- High-precision CT
- MRI
- DWIBS
- FDG-PET
These modalities allow us to evaluate the extent and characteristics of lesions in detail.
Local Treatment with IVR
Depending on your condition, we offer treatments such as:
- Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)
- Catheter-based treatment (embolization and arterial infusion therapy)
- Drainage treatment
These and other interventional radiology (IVR) treatments are performed at our clinic.
We aim to provide effective local treatment to control lesions and improve symptoms while keeping the burden on your body to a minimum.
Coordination with Multidisciplinary Treatment
In rare cancers, it is important to combine treatments such as:
- Chemotherapy
- Radiation therapy
- Surgery
A treatment approach that combines these therapies is essential.
At our clinic, we also provide local IVR treatment in close cooperation with attending physicians at other hospitals.
Please Consult Us in the Following Cases
- You have been diagnosed with a rare cancer
- You would like to discuss your treatment plan
- You are considering local treatment for recurrence or metastasis
- You wish to receive treatment that minimizes the burden on your body
About Consultations
At our clinic, we accept:
- Referrals from your attending physician
- Second opinion consultations
Both are welcome.
Please prepare your imaging data (CT, MRI, etc.) and feel free to contact us.
Because the characteristics and treatment strategies of rare cancers vary greatly from disease to disease, accurate diagnosis and treatment selection tailored to each patient's condition are essential.
At our clinic, we make full use of imaging diagnosis and IVR techniques to provide minimally invasive local treatment, including coordination with other therapies.
If you have any concerns about your treatment, please feel free to consult us.
